Karas’ Simple Smash Milestone session

Kara came in to celebrate her first birthday with a simple cakesmash and milestone session. It was such a joy to have her and her family back in the studio. I first photographed Kara as a newborn, so it felt extra special to see how much she’s grown.

We began with family photos — natural portraits of Kara with her mum, dad, and big sister. These moments always feel meaningful. The cuddles, the giggles, and the way little ones look up at their families — it all adds to the magic. Kara’s big sister was clearly proud of her little sidekick. We captured some really lovely sibling moments.

After the family portraits, it was Kara’s time to shine. We kept things simple and timeless for her milestone and cake photos. Her cakesmash setup featured a white backdrop and white floors. A plain cake sat front and centre, with simple white “ONE” letters beside her. No distractions — just soft details and one very expressive birthday girl.

And expressive she is! Kara pulled a full range of sweet little faces — cheeky smiles, curious looks, thoughtful stares, and big grins. She’s one of those little ones who gives everything in front of the camera. Her final gallery is full of personality.

I love when families return for milestone sessions. Seeing Kara again after her newborn shoot reminded me how quickly that first year flies by. It’s such a privilege to help document these early chapters. From tiny newborn cuddles to the joyful mess of turning one — it all tells a beautiful story.
