I recently photographed baby Charlotte as a newborn in my studio, so I felt genuinely honoured when Rebekah invited me back to capture her extended family photography. This time we met at Auckland Botanic Gardens with Charlotte and her parents, Rebekah’s brother and his wife with their son, and the grandparents.
This session brought three generations together, with plenty of meaningful combinations to capture.
We began with the full group, then worked through each family unit… Rebekah’s family, her brother’s family, grandparents with their grandson, and the siblings together again, now raising children of their own. I guided everyone through each grouping with a clear plan, which kept the session moving smoothly while still feeling relaxed.
Extended family photography Auckland sessions can feel like a lot to organise, especially with different ages involved. But when everyone focuses on simply being together, the session flows naturally. The kids did such a great job. We kept things flexible, gave them space to move, and followed their lead when needed. That approach always makes a noticeable difference.
Right at the end, Charlotte fell asleep in her mum’s arms. Not long ago, I photographed her as a brand new baby, so seeing her settled in the middle of her wider family felt especially meaningful. Parents often treasure those quieter images most… the ones that show comfort, connection, and real life unfolding.
Extended family photography goes beyond updating photos. It captures generations together and preserves this stage of your family story. Children grow quickly. Grandparents grow older. Life keeps moving. When you book an extended family photo session in Auckland, you choose to hold onto this chapter while everyone stands here together.
If you are considering extended family photography at Auckland Botanic Gardens or anywhere in Auckland, I would love to help you plan a session that feels relaxed, natural, and true to your family. Reach out to book your family photography session and let’s create images your family will value for decades to come.
