I recently had the pleasure of photographing the sweetest little guy, Enzo, for his newborn photoshoot in my Auckland studio. Enzo came to the session with his proud parents, and we had such a wonderful time capturing these early moments of his life. It was such a joy to create memories for this beautiful family.
For this shoot, we did two special setups that included items from Enzo’s cultural background. One of my favorite moments was draping a beautiful korowai over him. It was a meaningful way to honour his heritage, and the result was a stunning, sentimental photograph. Incorporating cultural items like this adds such a personal touch and makes the photos even more special. It’s one of the reasons I love what I do—capturing the unique stories and traditions that shape each family and their story.
I always encourage families to bring sentimental items to their newborn photoshoot, though it’s completely optional. You don’t have to bring anything at all, but if you do, it can make your images even more meaningful. These personal items could be a special gift, a knitted item of clothing, a family heirloom, or something tied to your culture, like Enzo’s korowai. Including these items adds a very special personal touch to the photos and helps tell your family’s story. I love how these touches make each session feel so unique.
As a newborn and maternity photographer in Auckland, I feel incredibly lucky to capture these precious moments for families. It’s a privilege to freeze time and create beautiful images that families will treasure forever. The love, the small details, and the special touches that each family brings are what make this job so rewarding.
