Little Liz visited my South Auckland newborn photography studio at just two weeks old and what a dream baby she was. She had a full head of dark hair and slept peacefully the entire time. Honestly, she couldn’t have been more content.
I’d photographed her parents for their maternity session a few weeks earlier. Watching them go from expectant parents to holding their baby girl was so special. The love in the room that day was quiet but deep—the way they looked at her, the way they held her close.
We captured a beautiful mix of family portraits and solo images of Liz. The sleepy ones where she curled into soft wraps are always favourites. These are only possible in those early newborn days. That’s why I encourage parents to book early and aim for a session in the first two weeks after birth.
At that stage, babies are naturally sleepy, snug, and still used to being in the womb. They settle into gentle poses easily and tend to stay calm through the session. After a couple of weeks, they begin to stretch out, become more alert, and may need more feeding breaks or comfort.
Planning ahead gives us the best chance to make the most of your session. It also means we can be flexible around your baby’s arrival.
As a baby photographer in Auckland, I know how fast this stage passes. One moment, you’re feeling those little kicks… the next, you’re holding your baby in your arms.
If you’re expecting and looking for a newborn photographer in South Auckland, I’d love to document this chapter for you. Maternity and newborn sessions are available, and early booking is always recommended.
