Marco & Marquez First Birthday Cakesmash

I’ve had the absolute joy of photographing Marco and Marquez since before they were born. First in their mum’s tummy, then as tiny newborns, and now for their big First Birthday Twin Cakesmash! Watching them grow has been such a special experience. This session at my Auckland-based newborn and baby photography studio was nothing short of adorable. With Nana joining us it was also a wonderful opportunity to capture them all together as a family.

From the moment they arrived, these two were full of energy and excitement. With their matching outfits and bright, curious eyes, they were ready to dive into the fun. And dive in, they did! There’s something so heartwarming about watching little ones experience cake for the first time. The surprise, the delight, and the pure joy of making a mess without a care in the world—it’s one of the most unforgettable moments.

Marco and Marquez didn’t hesitate for a second. They grabbed big handfuls of soft, fluffy cake and smeared icing everywhere. At one point, they even decided that sharing (or rather, stealing!) cake from each other was part of the fun. The giggles from their doting big sisters added to the celebration, making it even more special. There were sticky fingers, sweet messes, and happy chaos. It was pure joy all around!

After the cake fun, we wrapped up with a bubbly splash bath in my tiny clawfoot tub. Bath time is always a favourite moment of the session—it’s a chance to clean up, splash around, and capture those final sweet smiles before heading home.
